Create a website backup
Save a recovery point before changing your WordPress site, and check that the backup has finished.
In this guide
Before you start
Create a recovery point before a plugin update, theme change, or other work that would be difficult to undo. A backup request starts a task; it is not proof that a usable copy already exists. Allow the task to finish before making the change you want to protect.
Create the backup
- Sign in to your Kiro client area and open Websites.
- Find the website by its domain, choose Manage website, and open its Backups tab.
- Wait for the recovery-point list to load, then select Create backup once.
- Keep the confirmation message in mind and use Refresh to check the updated list. Wait while the backup is queued or being created.
You can also begin from the main Backups page when you need to work across several websites. Check the website associated with each recovery point before using an action.
Verify the result
- Look for the new recovery point and review its creation time and status.
- Do not treat an unknown status, missing date, or failed entry as a confirmed recovery copy.
- When Download is available, consider keeping a private off-site copy before a significant change.
A completed archive still needs to be appropriate for the work you are doing. A files-only copy cannot replace a database backup, and a database-only copy does not preserve uploaded files.
Schedules and retention
Automatic backup controls and schedules depend on the hosting service. Review the available backup settings in the full hosting control panel or ask Kiro support to confirm your service’s policy. Do not assume every website uses the same schedule, retention period, or storage allowance.
If it does not finish
If the task fails or remains unclear, contact support with the domain, approximate request time, and visible error. Keep the existing recovery points until you know which copies are usable.
