Move an existing website
Prepare a migration, copy your WordPress site, and verify it before changing live traffic.
Prepare the move
Take an independent backup at your current host before starting. Record what must work after the move: pages, images, forms, customer logins, payments, and any external connections. Keep the old hosting available until you have checked the new copy.
Run the import
- Open Websites in Kiro, then New website to reach the hosting control panel.
- Choose Add New, then Import Existing WordPress Instance. Select the destination service if asked.
- Enter the current website address and select an available import method.
- The plugin method can use WordPress administrator sign-in or a migration plugin you install manually. The advanced file-transfer method asks for the source server connection and WordPress directory.
- Provide credentials only in the secure import form. Follow its instructions and submit once, then monitor the existing import entry.
The migration runs in the background. The destination may use a temporary address if the original domain cannot be assigned. If an option is unavailable or you cannot identify the correct source directory, ask Kiro to review the migration before proceeding.
Verify the new copy
- Open the destination and inspect several pages, including a page with images or downloadable files.
- Confirm you can enter WordPress and that the expected plugins and theme are present.
- Test the important visitor journeys using safe test data. Avoid sending duplicate real orders or customer messages.
- Check redirects, menu links, and any external service that depends on your domain or server address.
Write down any differences before changing DNS. Do not treat a copied home page as proof that every integration moved successfully.
Switch traffic and follow up
When the destination has passed your checks, follow your service’s domain instructions and verify HTTPS. Recheck the public site after the change. Retain the previous backup and hosting until you are satisfied that the new site has the expected content and incoming activity.
If the import fails, give support the original domain, destination, time, and the displayed result. Never paste passwords, private keys, or a full database export into a ticket.
