Test changes in staging
Create a separate working copy and check changes before they reach your live visitors.
Plan the test
A staging website is a separate copy for trying changes. Use it for a theme redesign, a plugin replacement, or an update that could affect your visitors. Decide what you will test and how you will move only the intended changes back to the live website.
Create the staging copy
- From the correct website in Kiro, open Hosting control panel and select its live installation.
- Use the staging action or the + beside the environment controls. Review the domain, storage, upload-copying options, and any charge warning that appears.
- Confirm once and wait for the background copy to finish. Open the resulting Staging environment.
One staging environment is supported per live installation. Check for an existing copy before starting another. If the form offers skipping uploads, consider whether your test needs those media files; an incomplete copy is not a reliable visual check.
Work on the right copy
Before each editing session, inspect the browser address and the environment label. Give the copy a recognizable name and keep your live-site browser tab separate. A clear distinction is especially useful when the two WordPress dashboards look identical.
- Test the exact pages and user journeys affected by the change.
- Check desktop and phone layouts, including menus and long content.
- Use test accounts and sample submissions that will not create real commitments.
- Keep a short record of changed plugins, settings, templates, and content so the later release can be reviewed.
Before you publish
Confirm that the work is approved and review what changed on the live website while you were testing. Orders or new content created on live must be accounted for before a database is replaced. Follow the publishing guide for the transfer; testing a change in staging does not itself publish it.
If staging is unavailable, fails to finish, or shows a storage restriction, ask Kiro to review the existing request. Include the live domain and the stage where it stopped. Avoid deleting a copy containing work you have not saved elsewhere.
