Work with files and databases
Find the hosting tools for file access and database work, and avoid changing the wrong website.
Choose the right tool
Use WordPress for normal page, post, and media editing. File and database tools are for tasks that require direct access, such as inspecting a custom file or working with a developer. Keep a current backup before overwriting files or changing stored data.
In Kiro, open Websites, choose Manage website, and go to Settings → Hosting control panel. Select the correct hosting service and website. Available tools depend on the service and your permissions; a missing menu does not mean you should use another website’s credentials.
Use File Manager
- Open File Manager if it is available for the service.
- Locate the intended website directory and verify it before uploading, editing, moving, or deleting anything.
- Download a private copy of a file before replacing it. Make one change at a time, then refresh the file list.
- Visit the affected website page and check the result before continuing.
Connect with SFTP
If SFTP Accounts is available, use Show Access Details for the account you intend to use. Enter the displayed host, port, and full username into your SFTP client. Use its SFTP connection mode and the authentication method configured for that account.
Use the values shown for your service rather than assuming a default port or reusing your Kiro login password. Verify an unexpected server identity warning with support before accepting it. Remove access that a contractor no longer needs.
Work with the database
The hosting service may include MySQL Databases and a database-management tool. Confirm the database associated with the intended website before opening it. If that association is unclear, stop and ask support rather than guessing from similar database names.
- Export a current copy before a planned data change.
- Never delete a database or user merely because its name looks unfamiliar.
- Avoid search-and-replace or manual table edits unless you understand the site’s data format and the intended effect.
- Share access through an agreed private method; do not paste passwords into tickets or project comments.
